Living in Surprise Since 2004: Watching a Town Become a Community
When I tell people I’ve lived in Surprise since 2004, I usually get one of two reactions:
“Wow — you must’ve seen a lot of change.”
or
“Surprise was so different back then.”
And both are true.
I didn’t just move here because it was affordable or growing. I stayed because it became home — slowly, quietly, and then all at once.
Back When Surprise Felt… Quiet
In 2004, Surprise felt small.
Not empty — just peaceful.
There were fewer stoplights, fewer neighborhoods, and way fewer places to grab coffee. You planned your errands. You knew which roads were faster. And if someone said they lived in Surprise, people acted like you were way out there.
But there was something really special about that season.
Space. Skies. Breathing room.
It felt like possibility.
Watching Growth Without Losing Soul
Over the years, Surprise has grown — a lot. New homes, new schools, new restaurants, new energy.
But what’s always impressed me is that it didn’t lose its heart in the process.
Even as the city expanded, it stayed rooted in family, faith, community, and connection. Parks filled with kids. Sports fields buzzing on weekends. Neighbors who still say hello.
Growth didn’t erase the small-town feel — it reshaped it.
Raising Families, Building Lives
I’ve watched friends raise babies into teenagers here. I’ve watched neighborhoods fill in, schools open, and communities come to life.
Surprise is the kind of place where:
-
Kids grow up together
-
Parents volunteer at schools
-
Friday nights mean games and gatherings
-
And life feels full, not rushed
It’s not just a place to live — it’s a place to belong.
What Living Here for 20+ Years Has Taught Me
Living in Surprise since 2004 has given me something you can’t learn from market reports or Google searches: perspective.
I’ve seen:
-
Which areas matured beautifully over time
-
Which neighborhoods fit different seasons of life
-
How lifestyle matters just as much as square footage
-
Why people move here — and why they stay
Surprise isn’t one thing. It’s many things, depending on where you are in life.
And that’s what makes it special.
Why I’m Still Here
I didn’t outgrow Surprise.
Surprise grew with me.
It’s where memories were made, roots were planted, and purpose became clear. It’s where I get to serve others, help families find their place, and welcome people into a community I truly believe in.
I don’t just sell homes here.
I share a way of life.
And if you’re thinking about making Surprise your home — or you’ve been here awhile and love it like I do — just know this:
You chose well.
Serving you with love, always. 💗 Theresa
